Compliance Officer

The Compliance Analyst will lead and support quality and food safety compliance for a manufacturing site. This position will conduct facility inspections, auditing internal and external sites, and maintain quality and food safety compliance. The role has responsibility for maintaining HACCP, Food Safety Plans (/FSP/FSMA), GMP, and BRC/SQF compliance.

Primary Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for understanding and complying with Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards (i.e. BRC, SQF)
  • Responsible for undertaking the responsibilities of a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual as outlined under the Preventive Controls for Human Food regulation. Including the preparation of a Food Safety Plan, the validation of Preventive Controls, the Review of Records and the Reanalysis of the Food Safety Plan.
  • Responsible for up-dating and the continuous review of existing Food Safety plans to incorporate current GMP, Process Preventive Controls, Allergen Preventive Controls, Sanitation Preventive Controls and Supply Chain Applied Controls.
  • Lead the Food Safety (Preventative Controls) team in the evaluation and implementation of controls on all biological, chemical, physical and economically motivated hazards to our foods. This should also include consideration for the development of defect action limits, hygienic zoning and adequate by-product controls.
  • Conduct training employees to effectively perform their Food Safety responsibilities.
  • Implement, document, control, and maintenance of a detailed Quality Management program, including procedures, records, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP/FSP), Preventative Controls (PC), reassessment, and annual review of Food Safety and Quality PRP’s.
  • Responsible for meeting and exceeding customer requirements and effectively communicating with customers as requested.
  • Investigate customer/vendor complaints using root cause analysis, determining corrective actions and preventive measures, responding to complaints in the required timeframe, and analyzing complaint trends.
  • Manage/assist Customer, Corporate and Internal quality audits including BRC/SQF systems. Coordinates corrective and preventive actions plans with Quality and Food Safety manager and Operations team, ensuring CAR's are completed, effectiveness is verified and audits are closed. Provides insights through external audits/inspections to other facilities.
  • Develop, drive, and continually improve a comprehensive quality program as defined by the Synergy Flavors Company Quality Policies.
  • Assist with leading all company Quality initiatives and Quality audits locally and internally.
  • Performs complex quality floor audits and/or floor inspections.
  • Completes quality evaluation and release of support materials, products, equipment and facilities as required.
  • Develop SOPs and/or other quality documents and reports as needed.
  • May serve as Quality liaison to Quality and Food Safety Management and/or quality host of customer audits; coordinates responses to customer audits.
  • Assist Regulatory with new supplier and vendor qualifications.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors of Science in a related field such as Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or Food Science.
  • Three or more years of experience in quality assurance within clean (food, beverage, pharma) manufacturing
  • Experience with HACCP, FSMA, SQF, BRC, AIB or equivalent Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) criteria.
  • Understanding of quality testing and standards within the food and beverage industry to include analytical, microbiological and sensory.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to influence change and encourage action.
  • Solid problem solving abilities with the ability to coach and mentor others in this capacity.
  • Experience with QC related instruments such as pH meters, refractometer, densitometer, colorimeter, HPLC, water activity meter, and turbidimeter.
  • Previous flavor industry experience preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power BI, and D365.
  • Able to handle multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff.

Travel: 10% travel required  

Salary range: $55,241.38 - $82,862.07

The actual compensation that you will be offered will depend on a variety of factors including geography, skills and abilities, education, experience and other relevant factors. This role will remain open until filled.
