Location - Irvine, CA or San Diego, CA. This is an on-site/in-person role, 3+ days in office per week.
Summary/Objective
The Director of Financial Reporting and SEC Compliance will report to either the Corporate Controller or CFO, depending on the candidate.
Primary responsibilities:
- Prepare quarterly and annual SEC filings.
- Draft technical accounting memos and implement the related internal controls.
- Stay up to date on the latest accounting standards and implement any required changes.
- Review material contracts and transactions, perform underlying technical accounting research, draft policies and memos, and provide guidance to the accounting team.
- Manage the cap table within the equity software system, complete government surveys, work with the third-party registered agent on state registrations and annual report filings.
- Design and implement internal controls to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, including a system to test the internal control environment.
- Work with the external auditors to ensure compliance with regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Manage all aspects of the external reporting process, including preparation of the Company’s external financial reports, (Form 10-K’s, 10-Q’s, Proxy, etc.) and earnings releases, as well as internal management reporting, including the quarterly cash flow statement.
- Ensure compliance with all GAAP and related SEC financial disclosure requirements.
- Assist with the review of the XBRL process.
- Develop and maintain reporting procedures to comply with internal control requirements in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley and continuously seek improvements in control processes/procedures.
- Lead technical accounting research and analysis to ensure timely identification and compliance with evolving accounting guidance, provide US GAAP interpretation and prepare technical memorandums that document issues and conclusions in a clear, logical, and comprehensive manner.
- Review significant contracts for proper accounting, including significant revenue contracts for proper accounting under ASC 606.
- Collaborate with other members of Finance in providing accounting guidance on complex and unusual transactions.
- Assist with key areas of the monthly closing process, such as revenue recognition, equity accounting, and any other complex areas, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Manage communications with external auditors on external financial statements and accounting issues to ensure auditor agreement with Company decisions on accounting disclosures and issues.
- Support testing performed on internal controls internally and by external auditors.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders across other functional areas and external business partners, driving cross-functional alignment to key strategies and action plans.
- Participate in or lead initiatives and team projects and processes as assigned, including managing continuous improvement initiatives and driving efficiency in the financial reporting process.
- Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements.
- Oversee, lead, and develop accounting staff.

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting, or a related field.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with a combination of public accounting auditing manufacturing and/or life sciences industries and public company experience in related industry.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, ERPs, accounting software and experience with financial reporting systems.
- Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state/national regulations.
- Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations.
- Strong leadership and team development skills
- Self-motivated individual with ability to work with minimal direction from others, focusing on results and adding value to accounting operations and growth of the Company.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage well through ambiguity and complexity.
- Ability to operate under deadline pressure.
- Able to work well with senior executives and team, as well as mentor/lead other team members.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred.
- Knowledge of ERP systems.

Salary Range
$160,000 - $220,000
